Each of the two iGETT cohort participates in the following activities:
Year One:
- two-week summer institute at Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas. The institute develops remote sensing skills and addresses workforce applications of remote sensing data, related use of global positioning systems (GPS), and the integration of these technologies with GIS.
- additional training in remote sensing. Participants take an on-line remote sensing course from the University of Mississippi Institute for Advanced Education in Geospatial Sciences, or complete remote sensing course materials provided by the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing.
- curriculum materials development. Each participant develops a two-week Learning Unit that guides students though a case-study based activity. Both content and methods support use of the Learning Unit in a variety of instructional contexts. The Learning Units are posted on the iGETT Web site for use by all interested instructors.
Year Two:
- one-week summer institute at Del Mar College . Participants 1) share their learning units and upload them on the iGETT website; 2) develop plans for effective marketing, student recruiting, and community outreach.
- Course and program development; recruiting and community outreach activities that support geospatial education and workforce training at the home institutions
